GETTING HERE

GETTING HERE

FROM THE MAINLAND

To visit us here on the Isle of Jura by air or by car, you first need to head for the Isle of Islay. Loganair operates daily flights from Glasgow International Airport to Islay or you can drive or cycle (this is recommended so that you can get around more easily) and take the Calmac ferry from Kennacraig on the mainland and sail to either Port Ellen (South of Islay) or Port Askaig (East of Islay and the same port from which you sail from Islay to Jura).

Once you arrive on Islay there is a small car ferry which runs between Islay (Port Askaig) and Jura (Feolin) throughout the day, usually from 7.30am - 6.30pm, but please check the timetable as timings can change subject to the time of year and the weather. For the most up to date timetable, please click here.

If you fancy leaving the car or the bike on the mainland, you can pop over to Jura on the Jura Passenger Ferry which operates a direct route from the stunning mainland town of Tayvallich to Craighouse, the main village of Jura, also where you find us at the distillery. Unfortunately, as this is a 12-person covered rib, no bikes or cars are allowed on this route.

GETTING AROUND

If you come over on the passenger ferry, or find yourself without a set of wheels to get around, you can hire a car from two different companies, both based over on Islay at the airport – Cresswell Cars and Islay Car Hire. Both companies offer an excellent service and competitive rates.

Alternatively, if you want to use public transport instead, Traveline Scotland is extremely useful to help plan your journey ahead. You can also get a taxi from Islay Taxis.

STAYING HERE

One is the magic number here on Jura. One road. One shop. One pub. One whisky distillery. One gin distillery. And one hotel, Jura Hotel. But if you like something a little more independent, there are some great B&Bs and self catering options for you to choose from too.

And weather permitting, it’s sometimes also possible to camp in Craighouse in front of the hotel. Whether you are looking for hotel comforts or the space and privacy of a home away from home, when it comes to staying on Jura there are a few options to choose from.
